Behind the Bench: Bringing The Legacy Collection to Life

If you caught my recent post on How I Design a Piece of Jewelry, you might remember me giving you a quick sneak peek of a very special design—the Legacy Heart. At the time, it was a standalone spark of inspiration. But over the last few weeks at my workbench, that single heart has grown into something much bigger: a complete, unified body of work that I am finally ready to share with you.

Meet The Legacy Collection.

This collection is a true labor of love, and I wanted to take you behind the scenes today to share the story of how it moved from a scattering of raw wire into a fully realized collection of necklaces, earrings, and bracelets.

The Story & Intent Behind "Legacy"

When I sat down to create these pieces, I wanted to design a collection that holds real purpose and meaning for the person wearing it. The word Legacy kept returning to my mind. To me, a legacy isn't just about the far-off future; it’s about the stories, relationships, and milestones we carry with us every single day.

I wanted to create "modern heirlooms”, pieces that are simple and elegant enough to become your effortless daily style uniform, but structural and substantial enough to carry your personal story for years to come.

Designing the Perfect Texture Stack

Building a full collection means finding a common thread that beautifully ties every individual piece together. For the Legacy Collection, that thread is all about gauge, shape, and a lot of hand-hammering!

If you could look at my workbench right now, you’d see a mix of heavy-gauge solid Argentium silver wire.

  • The Post & Dangle Earrings: I chose substantial 14-gauge wire to frame the hearts, ovals, and circles. It gives them a striking, luxury profile but keeps them perfectly lightweight and comfortable on the ear.
  • The Centerpiece Hearts: For the focal hearts on the necklaces and bracelets, I bumped it up to an even thicker 12-gauge wire to give them a truly grounded, stunning presence.
  • The Handcrafted Chains: I am incredibly excited about the custom paperclip link chains in this collection. I individually hand-shape each oval link from thick wire, connecting them with smaller 18-gauge round rings. The result is a fluid, rhythmic drape with a satisfying weight you can actually feel the second you pick it up.

Every single loop, heart, and link in this collection gets individually hand-flattened and hand-hammered at my bench. This organic texture is my favorite part of the design process. It means no machine-perfection here; one side of a piece gracefully catches and shatters the light, while transitioning into a sleek, clean, high-shine edge on the other. No two pieces are perfectly identical, making your piece entirely yours.

Polishing and Launching

I am spending the next few days in full production mode—putting the absolute final assembly and polishing touches on the remaining pieces this week and getting all of our new crisp white product photography uploaded to the backend of the shops.

My goal is to have this entire collection finalized and ready for you before my major mid-October art jury appointment, and I am right on track to make that happen.

The Legacy Collection will be officially launching in just a few days on both my Etsy shop and right here on my Shopify boutique. In my next post, I’ll be doing the official visual reveal of the entire collection layout, including all five matching stackable bracelets and coordinating earrings, so you can map out your perfect daily jewelry uniform.

Thank you, as always, for coming along on this creative journey with me. I cannot wait to see which piece becomes part of your legacy!
